Announcement by Department of Labour with regard to Farm and Domestic workers:

Farm Workers

The Department of Labour announced an increase in the minimum wage for farm workers, effective from 1 March 2014 – 28 February 2015. In terms of Sectoral Determination for farm workers the minimum wages have been adjusted upwards to an hourly rate of R12,41 (previously R11,66); a weekly rate of R558,60 (R525,00); and monthly minimum wages of R2 420,41 (R2 274,82).

Domestic Workers

As from 1 December 2013 to 30 November 2014, the minimum wages for domestic workers who work more than 27 hours per week are:

Urban areas:
R9.63 hourly, R433.35 weekly and R 1877.70 monthly (for a 45 hour week)

Rural areas:
R8.30 hourly, R373.50 weekly and R1618.37 monthly (for a 45 hour week)

The minimum wages for domestic workers who work 27 hours per week or less are:

Urban areas:
R11.27 hourly, R304.29 weekly and R1318.48 monthly (for a 27 hour week)

Rural areas:
R9.80 hourly, R264.60 weekly and R1146.51 monthly (for a 27 hour week.
